Relic Wines is the shared dream of husband and wife Mike Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton, supported by a huge host of friends and family that graciously and continuously give their help and support to the project. We are wine lovers at heart, and our focus has always been to make wines that are not only natural expressions of their vineyards, but ones that taste delicious as well.
Mike's career in wine began as a sommelier in Colorado Springs, CO, at the award-winning restaurant Primitivo. He was Assistant Winemaker at Behrens & Hitchcock Winery from 2000-2002 and left to make wine for Relic and other Napa Valley wineries including Realm Cellars, Husic Vineyards, D.R. Stephens Estate, and Winter Wines.
Schatzi's love for wine came as a surprise upon moving to the Napa Valley after college on a whim. She found her way quickly to Behrens & Hitchcock Winery, beginning work there in 2000 along with Mike, and now serves as the General Manager for both Behrens & Hitchcock Winery and Erna Schein.
Robin Gerber came to Relic in June 2010 to do what she knows and loves best: tell the story of our family-owned winery and share her passion for handmade, artisan wines. With almost 12 years in the wine industry (ten of which we had been friends), Robin was uniquely qualified for this ‘must be up for anything’ job. Robin moved to the Napa Valley just in time for harvest in 1998 with a passion for wine. After working in wine production in the cellar, Robin continued her quest to learn all facets of the wine industry with stints at Robert Mondavi Winery as Wine Educator and then The Henry Wine Group, where she worked with Napa Valley restaurants and wine shops for five years helping fill their lists and shelves with premium wines. Finally, prior to joining our intimate team, she worked as the Director of Sales and Marketing at Paradigm Winery. If you are coming to the valley and would like to make an appointment to taste through our wines, please contact Robin. She can be reached directly at 707.484.9380 or robin@relicwines.com.

the old way.
