2009 Artefact Cabernet Sauvignon

For the first time, Artefact contains Cabernet Franc! Grown on the gravelly soils of the Jim and Jeanne Frediani Vineyard, this fantastic Franc contributes an added elegance and volume to the Artefact blend. Deep aromas of cassis, black cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, clove and chocolate emanate from the glass. In contrast to the more structured Artefacts of years past, this wine hits you with a sweet volume immediately on tasting. The charm of the 2009 vintage holds true, and the flavors effortlessly emerge on the palate. Stony, complex notes from the beautifully rocky Rockledge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon show character and complexity, resulting in a harmonious and complete wine.

Reviews
A dense, gutsy effort, rich and extracted, with dark berry, spice, mineral and cedar. Offers chewy tannins but also purity and a measure of finesse that will reward short-to medium range cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2026.

Medium ruby-red. Cassis, licorice and mint on the nose, along with strong graphite minerality. Sweeter and denser than the 2008 version, and more generous today; this really spreads out nicely to saturate the palate. The tannins, too, are much more easygoing. A lovely savory wine in the making, with a pretty floral element on the aftertaste.
