2010 Ritual

The 2010 Ritual is a stunner. Darker and richer than past releases, we went for major complexity of flavors and deep concentration, while retaining Ritual’s trademark elegance, fruit and aromatics. Rare Mourvedre forms the core of the wine here, while old vine Carignane and Petite Sirah from the Frediani Vineyard contribute an added depth and creaminess. Aromas of blackberry, strawberry jam, white pepper, rosemary, clove and hot stones burst from the glass. The palate immediately hits you with both density and a fat, voluminous feel, framed by fine tannins that allow the flavors to expand into a lush, long finish.

  • 47% Mourvèdre, 21% Carignane, 15% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah
  • Old Vines from Al Frediani Vineyard
  • Whole cluster fermentation, custom foot-stomped by Steve Hirby — Mike’s father!
  • Aged in 50% new French Oak for 15 months
  • Unfined & unfiltered

Reviews
Sexy aromas of blackberry, cracked pepper, flowers and spices. Cool, spicy and aromatic in the mouth, with blue and black fruit flavors lifted by flowers and white pepper and given structure by firm tannins. This bottling features the highest percentage of mourvedre yet, notes winemaker Mike Hirby, as well as 110-year-old carignane vinified with whole clusters. Really lovely aromatics here.

Slow to reveal all its charms, with supple, ripe plum and blackberry fruit woven among crushed rock, cedar and sage notes, this offers a delightfully teasing mix of flavor, texture and surprising subtleties. Mourvèdre, Carignane, Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah. Drink now through 2022.
