2018 Scarpa Whole Cluster Syrah

The Scarpa Whole Cluster is a first for us: 100% whole cluster fermented Syrah from the Cortese Vineyard in Coombsville, aged for 32 months in one neutral French oak puncheon, and we are thrilled with the result. An extremely complex nose of raspberry pie, iron, ginger, clove, white pepper, orange rind, duck fat, gianduia and milk chocolate fills the glass. On the palate, the long aging in puncheon is on display in the ultra-fine tannins and harmony. But, the wine also holds onto the vivacity and energy one hopes for in young Syrah, pushing the full-spectrum of red/black flavors and aromas along through the nuanced finish, ending in an exotic, peppery note. 42 cases produced from one puncheon.
