When you've been making Pinot Noir from the same site for 14 years, you start to learn its true character in a way that transcends the word "grape" or "wine". The word that comes to mind for Kashaya is kaleidoscope; the visuals this wine sends to the universe are exactly that. Colors abound, your head is spinning, and there is a perfect harmony where everything works in a circle. Aromas of black cherry, bright raspberry, those tiny strawberries from France, jasmine tea, lilac, lavender, wintergreen and clove are all floating above the glass. On the palate, you will find way more power than belies its 13.5% alcohol and velvety tannins supporting the weight. We have already drunk a fair amount of this, which is telling....
Brought up mostly in barrels (one-third being new) yet with a touch in ceramic jars, the 2021 Pinot Noir Kashaya has bright strawberry and framboise fruits interwoven with violets, flowers, and spicy nuances. All about finesse and elegance on the palate, it's medium-bodied, has fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It will evolve for at least a decade.
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2021 Kashaya Pinot Noir has an incredibly perfumed nose of roses, cinnamon stick, lavender, and wild thyme with a core of kirsch, raspberry coulis, and fresh redcurrants. The medium-bodied palate is so bright and vibrant, with very soft tannins and a refreshing backbone lifting the perfumed red berry layers to a very long finish.
